9 Marketing Hacks to Help Your eBook Stand Out on Amazon

It’s never been easier (or more difficult) to become an eBook writer. There is now no middleman standing between you and your audience. There is just you, Amazon and a potential audience of millions of people. Oh, of course there is the competition.

The only problem is how to get on the right track to marketing your self-published eBook so a lot of people know about and decide to buy it. If you write an amazing book and don’t market it right, you’re not going to see results.

To stand out in this busy marketplace you don’t need to work harder, but think smarter. Here are 9 marketing hacks to help you stand out from the competition and make those all-important sales.

1. Work on Giveaway Sites

There are so many directories/forum sites out there that you can utilize to promote your eBook. This is a good starting point where you can start collecting those vital reviews that help get the word out about your product.

Here are some popular sites where you can give away your book for free:
BlackHatForum
FatWallet
Reddit
SlickDeals

You need to remember to go beyond just giving away your book on those sites. Get yourself noticed by becoming or even starting the most popular discussions or posts for each sites. Here are several things that you should keep in mind.

– First, do a quick review of each site to identify people who have been successful using this strategy.
– Second, find the most popular category / section where you can promote your give away book.
– Third, make sure to engage with the people in the forum. Answer ever comment you receive.
– Fourth, ask them to leave a review of your book on Amazon. But this is not the only place to look for people to review your book.

2. Amazon Review

You know that people who browse on Amazon are actually ready to shop. Some of them know what they are looking for and some other are looking around just browsing in case they find the good stuff.

One of the things that people pay most attention to when browsing through Amazon are the reviews. Here is how you can work on your book review. You must have friends, family or super engaged readers, right? These people are the ones who are the most happy to help and support you. The best way to get a review from them is by asking.

Personally send them an email and ask them to review your ebook. Provide a direct link to your eBook to make it super easy for them to make the review.

3. Mailing Lists And Do the P.S.

Have you got your own subscribers list?

Yes? There you go! Well done. You can also promote your own eBook through your newsletters to your subscribers. Of course this is pretty obvious.

No? If you haven’t build you own mailing list, worry not! You can use somebody’s else mailing list (btw this is just a reminder that building a mailing list is one of the most important things for any Internet Marketer).

Just on a side note, I realise it might be a bit tricky to ask people to promote your eBook through another persons newsletter. A couple of options to think about include offering to give away a couple of free copies of your eBook and running some kind of competition. Unfortunately the most likely option is that you’re going to have to pay them.

4. Boost with Social Media

Social Media can be a huge helper for promoting any product online. There are so many people who spend so much time on social media, either through Facebook, Twitter or Google+. This makes it a great place to promote your eBook. However, to get real interest from people you have to go beyond just posting messages on Facebook and hoping that they get the attention of an audience.

There are so many groups, communities, pages on Facebook and Google+ will be relevant to your eBook topic. Most people will just promote their eBook in one of these groups, but you’re not most people. Instead of just throwing the comment out there, find the most active members of the group and then personally message them offering a free copy of the eBook. Then try and use this to start a discussion. Make sure that once a discussion starts to respond quickly to evers comment.

As for Twitter, there are so many accounts that are happy to promote good stuff. Prepare several different tweets to send out. Make sure to keep the number of characters in your Tweet below 100 as this makes it more likely that you will get retweets.

Mention other twitter accounts in your Tweets that are relevant to your eBook niche. If possible, use an interesting image / picture to go with the tweet. Remember, people engage more with a tweet if there’s a picture.

Extra tip: On Twitter, you can utilize the Trending Topic, but use it in a relevant way. Don’t be silly and random.

5. Promote in Your Email

There are two ways to promote your book launch via email.

First, you can simply put in on your email signature. Use some quirky, but also clear words to grab people’s attention and make them take action.
Second, include a link to your eBook on your auto responder email. It’s automated and a great way to get people’s attention. If you’re going to use this method make sure that you change the subject of the auto responder email.

Don’t just say, “I am away and will be back on xxxx” or “I am attending training and have limited access to my email.” Clearly state that you are launching your book. For example you could use something like this; “My Book is Launch.. I’ll get back to you at the soonest.” This makes the book launch the focus of the response and it means people are a lot more likely to take action.

6. Appreciate the people who support you and inspire other people do the same

So you have people who are supporting you and helping you promote your eBook? Excellent. Let them know how grateful you are. Thank them publicly!

Most people will really appreciate it if you acknowledge what they’ve done to support your project. You can thank people who leave reviews of your book, especially reviews on Amazon and other sites where people leave reviews. Also thank people who help you to spread the word about the book launch through other channels. Every little helps, right?

By doing thing like this you’ll gain people’s appreciation. People who already help you promoting your stuff will happily promote it again. People who haven’t done so might also be inspired by this and start to help you and support your book launch as well.

7. Teaser

Create a teaser for your own eBook. You can talk about a topic of your eBook and ask people to respond to this teaser. You could pose a question or make a statement and follow it with a question.

Be creative on creating the copy writing for your teaser. You can then naturally turn the discussion towards your eBook.

8. Write a guest post that relates to your eBook

Why not prepare an article for pushing the eBook even more?

Yes you don’t even need to have a blog to do this. Find a popular writing blog (there are hundreds of great ones out there with large communities of writers) where you can share your writing tips. These are great places to promote your eBook and will get you long term traffic.

This evergreen style of content marketing is a great way to continually get traffic. You can even make it more appealing to the webmaster by including an Amazon link with their affiliate code in your bio.

The great thing about this tactic is that the people reading your guest post will get an idea of your style of writing. So if they like what you write and how you write it, there’s a good chance they will be willing to spend money to read more of your content.
