A web designer, same like any designers, can have those rainy days. Your brain’s freezes, ideas move around your head like treacle and nothing seems to happen (sounds a lot like a hangover). At these moments, it is important to refresh yourself (and your brain) and use other people’s ideas for inspiration.
Yet these sites are not just a great place to receive inspiration, they can also be a good place to inspire other people with your own designs. Check out this list (in alphabetical order) to discover trends, learn more and flood your head with ideas. Here are 17 sources for inspiration. Let’s start!
AdmireTheWeb
It’s easy to spend a lot of time on Admire The Web. There’s a lot to see and plenty to inspire you. On the site you can browse based on categories and tags. There is also a “Templates” menu where you can see the very best web design templates.
BestWebGallery
Best Web Gallery showcases a variety of quality websites design. There are 131 pages worth of designs to explore with regular updates. It’s easy to submit your own website design if you want to inspire other people.
BestWebsiteGallery
Best Website Gallery was set up in 2008 and has more than 2,300 designs to check out. One of the nice things about Best Website Gallery is the easy navigation and the “Site of The Day” feature.
CSSMania
CSSMania is one of the most popular CSS-based websites on the Internet. It has been inspiring web designers around the world since 2004. They certainly have a huge collection of work for you to look at.
The nice thing about CSS Mania is you can actually check web designs by industry as well as by country. This makes it a great way to actually see what the latest developments in web design are.
DesignShack
Design Shack for sure showcases some great designs that are well worth checking out. On Design Shack I love the fact that you are able to filter designs by colors. There are also useful articles full of practical tips.
DesignSnack
Design Snack is a social-powered web design gallery with a lot of great filters. You can filter by types (CSS/HTML or Flash), by category (a pretty huge collections of industries) and sort by newest/oldest, most votes, most commented, etc. There’s a lot to check out and it’s very easy to browse.
HTMLInspiration
HTML Inspiration is one of my personal favourites when it comes to design sites. The website itself has a very clean design and it’s easy to explore. There are filters menu, Top 10/7 days, Loved/30 days and also the best, which I think is very useful and makes it easier to explore around the site if you’re looking to find inspiration.
Mmminimal
Mmminimal is a site to go if you love simple and minimalist design. Besides being full of tasteful designs, there are also articles everything to do with minimalist designs. You can browse the site by category.
Siiimple
Just like its name implies, Siiimple is a minimalist css gallery that showcases the best simple web designs from around the Internet. This site has been around since 2008. At the time of writing there are almost 1,000 web designs showcased here on Siiimple.
SiteInspire
Site Inspire is curated by Howells Studio. The site is regularly updated and at the time of writing there were 144 pages of designs to inspire you (each page contains 30 designs). The site is also very easy to navigate. You can browse and filter by style, type, or subject.
StyleBoost
Style Boost features 1460+ sites. There are a lot of amazing designs, but it it getting dated. The site has been around since 2000, but the last time it was updated was June 2014. So, this is likely to turn into a site for classic/ retro designs rather than cutting edge ideas.
TheBestWebDesign
The Best Web Design is packed full of great ideas. You can filter through the site by style or search designs by color, industry or genre, which make it easier to find designs to get inspired by. If you are looking for help with your design, you can also check out the designers directory. Pretty useful.
TheFavouriteWebsiteAwards
TheFWA, which established in 2000 and is packed with tons of inspiration for web designers. There is a Site of the day, Mobile of the day, Site of the month, Site of the year and many more filters. It’s a good way to look back and see how the Internet has been developing.
Unmatched Style
Unmatched Style does not only provide inspiration for web designers through its gallery, but they also provide informative articles, and also have a forum with active discussions. This mixture of a forum, posts and designs makes it a great site to check out.
Webcreme
It isn’t as easy as other websites to navigate, but there are a lot of amazing designs on this site. There are almost 600 pages of web design inspiration to be found on Web Creme. Should be more than enough to get you started if your brain is having one of those slow days.
WebDesignServed
Web Design Served is curated from Behance, an online platform that dedicated to showcasing some of the best creative works. I like to explore their Typography served gallery, you’ll find a lot of inspiration here.
WeLoveWP
As the name suggests, We Love WP is basically a site dedicated to WordPress themes. There are more than 4400 websites on the site, making it a great resource if you are looking specific for WordPress based designs.
