Graphics Giveaway: Malaysian Independence Day

There are 196 countries in the world (yes, I know most people will tell you it’s 193, but that’s just the number recognized by the United Nations) and 365 days in the year. Do the math and you’ll realize that almost everyday of the year there’s a national day. Now that’s a good thing for diplomats that are looking for some free food.

On August 30th it’s the Independence Day for the federation of Malaysia. To celebrate the event for our Malaysian Youzign members we created a graphics pack. Before I share it with you let me share with you 5 fun facts about Malaysia.

Independence Day

Malaysia celebrated its first independence day on February 20 1956. The federation of Malaysia is made up of the formerly independent countries of Malaya, Sarawak and North Borneo. The official Independence Day for Malaysia though is August 31.

Kuala Lumpur Tower

At 421 meters high the Kuala Lumpur Tower is the fourth largest tower in South East Asia. There’s a viewing tower at the top of the building that offers amazing views over the city. There’s even a nice restaurant at the top.

Independence Day Theme

Every Malaysian Independence day since 1956 in Malaysia has had a theme. The theme for 2014 was ‘Where Love begins.’ This year the theme is ‘Single Minded Malaysia.’

Langkasuka

But for a twist of fate we might have been celebrating Langkasuka Independence Day on August 30. Instead of choosing the name Langkasuka, which was the name of an ancient kingdom on the Malay peninsula, officials settled on calling the country Malaysia.

The Sarawak Cave

The Sarawak chamber, in Malaysia, is the largest underground cave in the world. It is so big that you could actually park a Boeing 747 inside the cave.
